Building Hope & Safety
New Shelter Capital Campaign

Campaign Progress

2016 - 2018

Having used a 90-year-old home as a safe shelter for victims and their children for the last 40 years, the Crisis Center recognized the dire need to begin exploring a new safe shelter for our community. A concept design and feasibility study began.

2019 - 2020

The concept design and feasibility study were completed, and the Crisis Center was able to purchase land for a new safe shelter through a generous $200,000 lead gift from Jim Koelliker and the late Susan Koelliker.

The new safe shelter capital campaign was launched with an initial goal to raise the 2019 estimated cost of construction of $1.8 million.

Fundraising efforts were successful and community members, civic groups, and foundations rallied around the efforts.

2021 - 2022

With the current nationwide shortage of materials and goods and the rising costs of construction, the Crisis Center increased its campaign goal to $2.75 million to complete construction and fully furnish the new safe shelter.

The final phase of the "Building Hope & Safety" campaign begins and the project completion date remained the summer of 2022.

In July 2022, the Crisis Center took out a loan to finish paying for the new shelter project.  Construction was completed and the new shelter was furnished.  The Crisis Center moved (quietly) into the new shelter on July 27, 2022 and quickly began serving more people in need of safe shelter.

In October 2022, after fully cleaning out the old shelter and getting completely settled in the new shelter, the Crisis Center announced publicly that it had moved into its new shelter.  The Crisis Center also put the old shelter up for sale, and launched the Sponsor-A-Room Program to help finish fundraising efforts for the capital campaign.

Due to construction costs coming in under projection and a few other savings, the Crisis Center was able to lower the overall campaign goal to $2,550,000 based on actual expenses at the time.  As of November 30, 2022, the Crisis Center had spent over $2,545,000 on the new shelter project and had raised slightly over $2,203,000 of its campaign goal.

2023

After being on the market since October 2022, in March 2023 the old shelter finally sold for $160,000 and all proceeds from the sale ($150,921) were put toward the new shelter loan.

In July 2023, between a combination of donations and agency reserves, the Crisis Center fully paid off its loan in the amount of $279,609.

Since moving into the new safe shelter in July 2022, the Crisis Center has more than tripled the amount of bed nights provided.  So far in 2023, the Crisis Center has already provided 6,336 bed nights in the new shelter.
